Brian-Biking Icy Tunnels

Brian took a 17.9 mile ride over Anchorage trails and through icy tunnels.

Finally, a clear, sunny spring day in Anchorage. I left from Dimond Center on an 17.9 mile bike ride.

As I expected, the trails were clean for the most part except for very shady areas and tunnels. The tunnel under arctic was flooded with water and ice.
  •
GRRRRR!! Have to go up and over.
  •
The Seward Highway underpass was looking pretty nasty, too. I decided it was safer to walk it.

This is from the tunnel that goes under Jewel Lake on the bike path South of International.
  •
Finally, I reach the Coastal Trail and I'm rewarded with a view of Sleeping Lady (Mount Susitna).
  •
Time to put Sleeping Lady in the rear view.
  •
The tunnels on the trail form Spenard to Arctic were a mess, too.
  •
About of foot of ice is under Arctic, and a CREVASSE! I'd better not fall in or nobody will ever find me!
  •
WHOA!! SO THIS IS WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BE TALL!!
  •
I could touch the tunnel's ceiling.
  •
    I'M GINORMOUS!!

Here's a screencap of the route map and elevation chart from STRAVA. That's a free app I put on my phone. Very handy. Hope to see you biking the trails soon!
