Brian's BIKE TO WORK 2010

Get ready for the Bike To Work Fashion Show & Festival on Saturday May 1st, and Bike To Work Day on May 21st.

  •
Here I am with good ol' DIGGER, my bike. Note the safety gear. I've had one concussion falling off a bike while not wearing a helmet. One's enough.
  •
Digger now has a handlebar bag. A few strips of reflective tape really help me to stand out. I like to be seen clearly crossing a road, because in a bike vs car accident, my money's on the car to win.
  •
Velcro ankle straps keep the jeans from catching in the chain and peddles. Make sure you tuck in your laces, too.
  •
Reflective straps are one more way to be seen by drivers. BTW--always use crosswalks, and wait your turn. MAKE EYE CONTACT with drivers before crossing in front of them at a driveway or parking lot enterance--be sure they see you.
  •
No need for a camelback. I've got a handlebar mounted bottle, plus spares in my bags. And the bell is WAY better than shouting, "Passing on the left!" which never works. Never.
  •
A good lock and chain are a must, and easily ignored on the handlebar's gooseneck.
  •
My new tailbag comes with enough room for extra water, and lots of clothes and gear.
  •
I've got my after-work biking gear inside: padded biking shorts, t-shirt (NOT cotton), all weather jacket, padded open-finger gloves, and some overpants in case of cold.
  •
In the saddlebags, plenty of room for my Shimano biking shoes...
  •
...and my Magic 98.9 jacket and vest if I go out for lunch. I don't mind the extra weight--harder training gets me ready for long distance charity bike rides. I'll lighten up the load then.
  •
Benefit of biking to work: SAVE MONEY ON GAS! Look, there's my wallet...looking surprised that it has a few bucks left in it.
  •
Benefit of biking to work: SAVE GAS FOR OTHER THINGS. This bag has room for my wallet, a clip for a key chain, a ball cap, and...
  •
Extra tubes, a repair kit, and an energy bar or two. Yes, I have been stranded on the highway before...I am equipped for most emergency fixes now.
  •
Sorry that it's hard to see, but both my tail bag and handlebar bag clamp on and slide off, and come with shoulder straps. I can take them inside if I have to chain up my bike outside.
  •
Benefit of biking to work: LESS GUILT WHEN EATING. I dropped by one of my favorite fast-food places for breakfast. After all, it is the most important meal of the day!
