The Annual March For Babies at Westchester Lagoon in Anchorage, AK, May 15, 2010.
We had PERFECT weather for the March for Babies.
I tried to capture the reflections off of Westchester Lagoon.
I volunteered to be the emcee today. My "office" was a flatbed, which we used for a stage and to elevate the sound system.
Plenty of banner went up for the March of Dimes.
And since it was for the Alaska Chapter of the March of Dimes, we used plenty of duct tape.
People could enter to win a family four-pack of tickets to see WALKING WITH DINOSAURS, coming to the Sully in August.
People signed up under the hungry gaze of a Balloonasouras.
DON'T MOVE!! The balloonasaurus tracks movement--it can't see you if you don't move. Much like the dreaded Doyouthinkhe-saurus.
No shortage of contestants.
The drawing will be on Monday, 5/17.
Hundreds of people came out to walk.
Hundreds of balloons decorated the event, and the strollers.
Warm-ups before the walk.
Come on now...don't want to pull a hammy.
Starting to work up a little sweat.
The music was up loud, but someone's bones were still creaking pretty loudly...oh wait, that's me.
Get ready to walk!
This kid was just cool. He was like, "Go ahead and take my picture. I'll wait."
Walkers filled up the trail along the lagoon, heading toward the turn-around point 1.5 miles away.
Walkers, runners, and people with strollers participated.
The March of Dimes Mission:
To improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. We carry out this mission through research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies' lives.
Thank you to the many volunteers who helped make this event flow so smoothly.
STU-DOG!!! It's Stu, from the Morning Zoo, Magic 98.9's noisy neighbor in the studio next door at 101.3 KGOT. And look, Daddy Stu brought the kids.
Whenever I could, I brought entry slips and flyers to the busy parents and volunteers.
BOUNCIN' BEARS was there with an inflatable castle for the kids to jump in.
This was the shot that put a haze on the corner of many pictures. The person who shot the photo didn't know he was touching the lense...and I forgot to check it to see if it needed cleaning.
Even with the fingerprint, the shots weren't too bad.
Obligatory shot of deejay, station logos, and entry box.
Obligatory shot of deejay, station logos, and entry box while deejay hams it up. Good Dino...that's a goood dino.
