WALK FOR WARMTH 2011

On Saturday, Feb 19, 2011, Brian Ross volunteered to emcee the first annual United Way of Anchorage's Walk For Warmth.

  •
It was a clear, beautiful, but very cold day in Anchorage. The cold is what concerned us most at the United Way's Walk For Warmth.
  •
I got the best parking space at the Dena'ina Center. Look...no parking meter.
  •
Here I am with Board Chair of the United Way of Anchorage, Stacy Tomuro, as we get ready to kick off the event which raises money to assist people in need to pay utility bills.
  •
We weren't just smiling for the camera. We were happy to see a GREAT TURNOUT for the first year of this event.
  •
This was just the beginning. Many more would file in to the Dena'ina center, register, and walk. "Day of" registration alone brought in over $3000 more.

    Toddlers for Warmth.
  •
Also there to show his support, Senator Mark Begich with his son Jacob.
  •
And who's this?! OMG!! It's MISS ALASKA HERSELF, JESSICA CHUCKRAN!! Must post on FB ASAP!! With this link: http://www.missalaskausapageant.com/
  •
Can I claim workers comp when I am emceeing an event and a sweet woman makes me speechless? Oh yeah, not working...I volunteered.
  •
Jessica was great. She helped on the microphone, stayed late for people wanting pics with her, and she walked the course in 10 degree weather wearing a CROWN...not earmuffs.
  •
Elizabeth Miller of the United Way of Anchorage was helping to get people registered and ready.
  •
10 degrees?! No way, dude! I ain't going!

My friend, poet, and former co-worker, Corinna Delgado of Channel 13 gave a moving testimony. www.youralaskalink.com/about/bios
  •
Senator Mark Begich had kind words for people who volunteer and support The United Way.
  •
This is Scott Centers, General Manager of YourAlaskaLink.com, which brings you Fox 4 KTBY, and Channel 13 among other stations.
  •
Nothing but smiles, pins and T-shirts for everybody.
  •
Then they left for a one-mile walk around the Park Strip. It was so quiet until their return. Wish I could have joined them, but I had to stay back in the rear with the gear.
  •
Oh, and we can't forget the BIGGEST CELEBRITY onhand...THE MOOSE! After all, what's bigger than a moose in Alaska? Hello Seymour of Anchorage.
  •
It was a great success, and with your help the United Way can assist so many more people. Find out how at www.liveunitedanchorage.org.
